A Regulated Asset Class
Among the many benefits of investing in professionally-managed futures is that the commodities and futures markets are a regulated asset class. Managed futures are traded by licensed, experienced Commodity Trading Advisors (CTAs). All trades are cleared through a clearing house which is monitored by the National Futures Association (NFA) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Tax Benefits††
For those in the upper tax bracket, tax savings can be as much as 30% on short term gains in futures vs. stocks. According to the Tax Act of 1981:
Short-term profits in futures are:
60% long-term: 15% tax
40% short-term: 35% tax
Short-term trading profit stocks are:
100% short-term: 35% tax
††We recommend managed futures should only be used with speculative capital, & that the investment should not exceed 20% of assets for 10% of client's overall net worth. Alternative investments such as managed futures are not suitable for all investors. We recommend reviewing any investment tax consideration with a qualified tax professional. Vista Capital Management, does not provide tax advice. Investors must consult their own tax advisers regarding the possible tax consequences of an investment in commodities.
